Diversifying the Educator Workforce Leadership Series - October 2023
Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools (MAPCS) has partnered with the Center for Black Educator Development (CBED) to offer a series of events to generate and support a diverse pipeline of charter educators throughout Maryland. This work is funded by the MSDE Charter School Program (CSP) Grant. Join us October 11th, 18th or 25th, 2023.
Grant Writing Workshop
In this one-hour workshop, Sheila Wells, grant writer and founder of Wells Philanthropy, will share strategies and resources for finding and writing grants; building community partnerships and funder relationships; and developing time-saving annual program one-sheets. There will be plenty of time for questions. Sheila works with multi-sector nonprofits across the country from schools to small grassroots organizations to large institutions.
Pre-Hiring Fair Workshop (Virtual)
Audience: School and operator staff involved in recruiting, hiring, onboarding new staff and/or professional development (ex. HR, operations, organization representatives who will attend the hiring fair)
The Center for Black Educator Development (CBED) will present to school leadership staff and hiring managers a strategic plan focused on the recruitment (and retention) practices to maintain a diversified staff. Topics include: recruitment, selection, retention and sustaining a diversity pipeline in preparation for the MAPCS hiring fair in March.

Join educational researchers Halley Potter and Michelle Burrris for an interactive presentation on how charter schools can advance the school integration movement in 2021. Discuss and develop solutions for increasing diversity in enrollment as well as pushing on equity within a school, and how the racial justice movement has presented a window of opportunity to center integration. Current school leaders and administrators as well as those planning new schools are welcome to join. There will be opportunities to work with colleagues, pose individual questions, and to ask Halley and Michelle about their recent published report on strengthening integration and diversity nationwide.
