College Park Academy

College Park Academy

Riverdale, MD | Grades 6-12

College Park Academy is one of only six statewide public charters to receive a four or five star rating in 2018-2019 from the MSDE. CPA offers a Blended Learning environment where students can take face-to-face courses and virtual courses with the most expansive course offerings in the state of Maryland. CPA uses the nationally-recognized Pearson Connections online curriculum in school and at home, allowing students to accelerate their learning. CPA offers dual enrollment with PGCC and concurrent enrollment with UMD. CPA also offers a robust “Signature Program. This gives students the opportunity for themed coursework and independent study aligned with colleges at the University of Maryland. Our students learn from leaders and researchers at UMD, collaborate with UMD students, attend field trips at UMD and complete their studies at CPA with AP Capstone.

CPA’s partnership with the University of Maryland makes it the premier charter school in Maryland. UMD faculty, staff and students infuse CPA with academic rigor. UMD Colleges from Education and Computer Science to Engineering, Public Health, and Arts and Humanities are active at CPA.

CPA was founded in 2013 by the College Park City/University Partnership as part of its Vision 2020 to create a top 20 college town. CPA’s Board is chaired by UMD President Wallace Loh and includes UMD deans, professors, and alums, as well as College Park Council members and community leaders.

Imagine Foundations at Leeland Public Charter School

Imagine Foundations at Leeland Public Charter School

Upper Marlboro, MD | Grades K-8

Imagine Foundations at Leeland Public Charter School provides a challenging learning environment for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. We are committed to: Rigorous Curriculum; Positive Character Development; Welcoming Environment; High Expectations for Every Student; Certified and Professional Staff

Our Values can be broken down into what we term “The 3 C’s”:

Content Rich Curriculum: Through the adoption of the Core Knowledge sequence, we provide students with an integrated educational approach that places a heavy emphasis on classic literature, mathematics, geography, art, physical education, and music.

Culture That Shapes Character: We consciously and rigorously work to develop the character of every Imagine Foundations at Leeland student by dedicating the first 20 minutes of each school day to the teaching of positive character traits. We reinforce these teachings by incorporating character-forming rituals throughout the school day. Students also benefit from having monthly prominent character education speakers and award ceremonies.

Meaningful Community: We teach students the importance of community by working collaboratively with our parents, guardians, and local community stakeholders in pursuit of our mission.

Imagine Foundations at Morningside Public Charter School

Imagine Foundations at Morningside Public Charter School

Morningside, MD | Grades K-8

Our educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that the content of what children learn is very important and that it is inadequate to focus primarily on teaching skills and techniques to pass tests. In order to help children thrive academically, learning must go beyond skill acquisition to the mastery of content that provides them with the ability to apply what they learn to new situations, solve problems, and create new ideas. This depth of understanding leads to a love of learning and an ability to independently develop innovative solutions to problems and create new knowledge.

Legends

Legends

Lanham, MD | Grades K-5 (year one, adding a grade per year until reaching 8th grade)

Legends Charter School has a school departmentalized design. Departmentalization is the practice of dividing the instructional responsibility of teachers according to the content area. Through this model, students receive daily instruction from a combination of teachers who specialize in and teach a specific content area. By concentrating on fewer disciplines, teachers can better craft rigorous and engaging lessons for students. Departmentalization goes beyond delivering content and increasing test scores; it allows teachers to collaborate on curriculum and student progress and share their passions for a subject. Departmentalization maximizes available resources to ensure teacher effectiveness.
