What Makes Us Unique
New Village Academy is a new public charter high school opening in Annapolis in Fall 2026. New Village is “high school done differently!” We have built our approach around the science of motivation - designing a school that inspires students to DO their education, instead of having it done TO them.
At New Village Academy, students are…
…KNOWN - seen and heard as individuals
New Village Academy is a small school where everyone knows each other’s name and is part of a “Crew” with an advisor who stays with them for all four years.
…CONNECTED to real-world issues and people
Every student has access to a city full of opportunities to learn and contribute to the real world through project-based learning, internships, and apprenticeships.
…EMPOWERED to take charge of their own education and future
Students craft their own unique learning and career plans with the support of their Navigation Team - their “Crew” advisor, their parents, a community mentor, a peer coach, and their internship supervisor - with whom they set and show progress on goals each quarter.
…ACCOUNTABLE for meaningful work beyond the classroom
Portfolios of professional-level work show mastery of skills, and early college, career certifications, and practical interpersonal and life skills create meaningful pathways to successful, engaged adult lives.
Graduates of New Village Academy will already be practiced experts
at lifelong, self-directed learning
at reflective personal growth
at active civic engagement
and at the workplace skills and professional network-building that research shows are critical for career success.
Mission and Vision
OUR MISSION
New Village Academy ensures every student is known, connected, empowered, and accountable so they have the will and the skill to forge their own education and future.
OUR VISION
New Village Academy envisions the City of Annapolis united in launching all our youth into thriving careers, strong character, and active civic engagement.
Programs
Crew Advisory - Meets daily. 14 students stay together for 4 years with 1 teacher/advisor.
Internships or paid apprenticeships - 1-2 full days per week. 450 hours minimum by graduation. Personalized to student's career interests.
Community Action Projects - Literacy, Science, and Social Studies are skills learned in real-world projects that have an impact on our community.
Dual Enrollment - students take classes at Anne Arundel Community College on the college campus (or online) for high school AND college credit.
Personalized, blended learning - Every student gets differentiated skills instruction with the support they need through Modern Classrooms Project
Critical Thinking and Collaboration Labs in Math and Language
“Competency-based” mastery portfolio assessment - students earn credit by demonstrating skills in portfolios of their work, not by “seat-time” in a class.
Navigation Teams - A support team for each individual student, who presents 3x per year and receives encouragement, feedback, and supported goal setting.
Active family involvement - Parents are key Navigation team members, families and their cultures are celebrated and integrated into school traditions. Crew leaders do home visits the summer before enrollment.
Inclusive, project-based SPED and English-learner Integration - EVERY student has an individual learning plan where differences are celebrated and strengths are developed, one student at a time!
Practical Skills Workshops - Financial literacy, first aid/CPR, and practical life skills badges.
Student Interest-Driven Clubs, Sports, and Activities
