About Us
What makes us unique
Govans Elementary has many unique qualities. One of those qualities include a highly effective staff that have worked at Govans for most or all of their career. This longevity provides a quality education and consistency for students and their families.
Curriculum includes Direct Instruction, Eureka and Core Knowledge. Direct Instruction is another quality that sets Govans apart from traditional Baltimore City schools. Direct Instruction allows us to instruct every student on their individualized performance level. The Direct Instruction curriculum is a tool that we use to provide rigor and high-level instruction. Baltimore Curriculum Project is the reason we are able to use such a well written, researched based successful program.Community
Our Community Schools Coordinator , Ms. McFadden, recently coordinated an event where our students created Mosaic tiles for a memorial garden, along with Loyola students, for the DeWees park.
Recently, Sara Moore and LaTasha Peaks (Govans/DAD staff members) took six students from our afterschool program to spend an afternoon with the residents of Broadmead Retirement Community creating intergenerational art projects.
Mission and Vision
To develop, implement, and advocate for an innovative, sustainable, and replicable education model that improves student outcomes. In so doing, the Baltimore Curriculum Project will help to raise educational standards and opportunities for disadvantaged youth and Baltimore City schools.
